Front
page:
The
magazine has a 3 colour scheme red, black and white, this magazines front
page looks better because it is more simple and neater and the colours
make it stand out. it also attracts the reader.
The
masthead is bold and stands out with red around it which attracts the reader.
They
have a lot of pull quotes which excites the reader to buy the magazine because
the pull quotes put suspense in the magazine and makes the reader wanting to

The
magazine also has connotations like 'kick in the arse' the verb kick increases
the excitement of the reader by using powerful words and makes the reader want

There
are two cover stars they are wearing black which reflects the fact that it is a
rock magazine, the picture was taken in a studio, and it is a medium long shot,
they guys in the picture look serious like they want to beat someone up which
may link to 'kick in the arse'. which links to the fact it's a rock magazine
and it is rough music.
The
guys in the picture look powerful because they are wearing black and one of
them is wearing a leather jacket which is expensive and also motorcyclists wear
leather jackets so the person in the picture may be strong and powerful.
The
layout of the magazine front page simple, which is attractive and attracts the
reader. The colour of the masthead matches the colour scheme of the front page
and the simplicity of the FrontPage makes the reader think that it's a simple
magazine and so easy to read.
Contents
page:
There
is only 1 contents page in the magazine.
The
title is large but not that big but does stand out because next to it is the
logo which stands out in the white and black
It
follows the 3 colour scheme the text and writing is black the page numbers are
red and the background is white.
There
is only one picture in the contents page who are the cover starts, it is a
similar picture but with a palm tree background.
The

The
contents page is split into 3 sections the first section is the regulars where
the regular reviews etc. are. The second section are the features on this issue
of the magazine and the first section is the bad list where you can search up a
specific band to read about.
The
layout of the contents page is neat and easy to look through and it is kept
simple to attract the reader because they can guide themselves around the
magazine easily.
Double
page spread:
The
picture in the double page spread goes over the two pages with one column of
text. It has a drop cap which livens up the letters in the article.
The
double page spread is full of pull quotes to make the reader interested and
make them look forward to reading the article because the quotes build up
suspense.
The
artists in the picture are laughing and smiling which makes the reader happy
when they see a happy picture and makes them want to read the article.
On
the side is says The Week vertically which is different to other DPS where the
title is horizontal which attracts the reader.
The
artists laughing is linked to the quote in yellow but also show that the
article must be funny increasing the chance of the reader reading it.
The
language used in NME is formal and also a bit informal like Kerrang magazine which
suits the rock genre.

This
is statistics for the audience for the NME magazine
By looking at the stats
for NME magazine I can see that most of the readers are into music and also
most of the readers are full time workers and students. therefore I am going to
aim my magazine at youngsters age 16 - 25.
Analysing this magazine
has taught me that rock magazine don't only have to be messy they can also be
neat but also have the same rock affect. Also most of the readers are young the
language used should be easy and should have some slang in it, and should be a
bit informal.

this is a respectable case study Abul and you have started to think about layout, conventions and images. You could be clearer on the use of coverlines, journalistic language in the DPS and evidence of genre throughout. You need to annotate the press pack and also think about the publisher. You need to explain how this case study helps you with your own ideas. Vanessa
ReplyDeleteYou have addressed some of my comments above, but you have not researched the publisher or clearly enough indicated how the case study helps you with your own ideas. VC
